Our Deepest Fear

 I'm sure many of you have noticed the numerous proud students donning cap and gown making their way through the streets to graduation.  I always take the time to stop and say congratulations.   Usually they beam back a thank you as they scurry on. Those of us who graduate in life from one phase to another are always such an inspiration to everyone.  Here's hoping that Marianne Williams words encourage you.

God Enjoys A Good Laugh!

Once again readers another friend of mine sent me this light hearted read that I thought you all would enjoy sharing.



GOD ENJOYS A GOOD LAUGH!  
There were 3 good arguments that Jesus was Black:  
1. He called everyone brother  
2. He liked Gospel  
 3. He didn't get a fair trial  

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Jewish:
  
 1. He went into His Father's business  
2. He lived at home until he was 33  
3. He was sure his Mother was a virgin and his Mother was sure He was God  

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Italian:
  
 1. He talked with His hands  
2. He had wine with His meals  
3. He used olive oil  

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was a Californian:
  
 1. He never cut His hair  
2. He walked around barefoot all the time  
3. He started a new religion  

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was an American Indian:
  
1. He was at peace with nature  
2. He ate a lot of fish  
3. He talked about the Great Spirit  
But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Irish:  
1. He never got married..  
2. He was always telling stories.  
3. He loved green pastures.  
But the most compelling evidence of all - 3 proofs that Jesus was a woman:  
1. He fed a crowd at a moment's notice when there was virtually no food  
2. He kept trying to get a message across to a bunch of men who just didn't get it  
3. And even when He was dead, He had to get up because there was still work to do  

 
Can I get an AMEN ???

Happy Sunshine & April Showers












Last week so many of you contacted me to declare that keeping our heads in the clouds may help temporarily in taking our minds off difficult life situations. However when seeking relaxation and rejuvenation water is our most calming remedy.

For those of us who are reflecting on the deeper questions of life while spending time near water please consider that water comes from the clouds.


Still being immersed in water soothes the mind, body and spirit. Thank you all for that reminder.

In any case (clouds and/or water) I wish you all peace and blessings in your most life affirming choice of contemplation.

Keeping Our Heads in the Clouds




Deep Reflection & Relaxation
 

Keeping our heads in the clouds is often the best place for it to be in order for us to move away from our daily stresses and reconnect to the majesty of eternal nature that is far greater than our present condition.

We've all had instances where we've put aside a difficult work assignment, a paper we were writing or a life challenge we were grappling with. To get away from it all we may chose to take a walk to clear our heads, have a lunch break with friends, spend a weekend in the country to get out of the noisy city or take a trip to the city to move away from the quiet of the country.  Often when we return we find we have new solutions to our challenges.   Sometimes we may find we are able to sail through prior obstacles with an ease that we would have thought unimaginable prior to our taking a break from what we believed was an impossible situation.

Let's take time each day to silence ourselves and relax, to listen to good music, to read inspirational words or  meditate. Then come back to our life's challenges with a renewed energy.                              .

Spending time daily with our heads in the clouds may help us live a more peaceful and productive life here on earth.

FROM 40 DAYS OF LENT TO EASTER





Greetings Supporters,

Several of us started out weeks ago sacrificing at least one of our regular temptations for lent.    Some of us may feel we did battle with the devil himself to abstain from the vices we chose to forego at this time of year.  Others may feel that a burden has been lifted in our lives by  having refused to succumb to something we felt was a vice that we could not live without.

No matter how we believe we fared there has been growth for us all.    We have reached the end of our lent journey together and the experience has bestowed many blessings on us all.

Please take this time to reflect and count them.

The Moral of the Story

This week a friend sent me this little fable.  I thought it would give you all a chuckle.  And uplift all of our spirits with regard to growing older, wiser and more mature.



An old German Shepherd starts chasing rabbits and before long, discovers that he's lost. Wandering about, he notices a panther heading rapidly in his direction with the intention of having lunch.
The old German Shepherd thinks, "Oh, oh! I'm in deep shit now!" Noticing some bones on the ground close by, he immediately settles down to chew on the bones with his back to the approaching cat. Just as the panther is about to leap, the old German Shepherd exclaims loudly, "Boy, that was one delicious panther! I wonder, if there are any more around here?"
Hearing this, the young panther halts his attack in mid-strike, a look of terror comes over him and he slinks away into the trees.
"Whew!," says the panther, "That was close! That old German Shepherd nearly had me!"
Meanwhile, a squirrel who had been watching the whole scene from a nearby tree, figures he can put this knowledge to good use and trade it for protection from the panther. So, off he goes.
The squirrel soon catches up with the panther, spills the beans and strikes a deal for himself with the panther.
The young panther is furious at being made a fool of and says, "Here, squirrel, hop on my back and see what's going to happen to that conniving canine!"
Now, the old German Shepherd sees the panther coming with the squirrel on his back and thinks, "What am I going to do now?," but instead of running, the dog sits down with his back to his attackers, pretending he hasn't seen them yet, and just when they get close enough to hear, the old German Shepherd says...  
"Where's that squirrel? I sent him off an hour ago to bring me another panther!"  
Moral of this story...  
Don't mess with the
old dogs... Age and skill will always overcome youth and treachery!
B.S. and brilliance only come with age and experience.  
If you don't send this to five 'old' friends right away, there will be five fewer people laughing in the world.  
Of course, I am in no way insinuating that you are old, just 'youthfully challenged'.  
You did notice the size of the print, didn't you?

AFTER THE ASHES - BREAKIN' SPRING WEATHER

 

Hi Lent Sacrificers,

Now that the spring tease weather is breakin' does all this lovely atmosphere cause you grief in  keeping your lent vows or make it easier?   For some of us the cold makes us eat more.  For others the thought of removing our heavy winter clothing makes us eat less so that we can slim down. 

I know many of you have given up such things as meat, bread, soda, chocolate, coffee and sugary treats of all kinds. For me it's a struggle.  I surprised myself my eating only leafy green salads for lunch for the last three days. Frosty Fountain Pepsis seemed to be calling me everywhere I went last weekend.  But doggedly I added lime to ice water and I was surprisingly content.

So how about you?

AFTER THE ASHES

Last week on Ash Wednesday we shared our thoughts about what we were giving up for Lent.  I let you in on my decision to give up chocolate and caffeine for this season.

How's it going people?

While at an event yesterday they served chocolate chip cookies.  I noticed some of the little chips had fallen off on to the serving napkin.  So I ask you if we just eat the little chips and not the whole cookie does it still count as a violation?

Well I resisted and didn't munch on them.  But went through terrible withdrawal instead.

And this last week I noticed there was WATER   WATER   WATER   everywhere.  So I didn't succumb to Pepsi.  Because after all Water Is the Real Thing!

Some say I look like I have lost a little weight.  YIPPEE!!!

So  . . . HOW YOU DOIN'?

ASH WEDNESDAY

American Heritage Dictionary:  Lent

The 40 weekdays from Ash Wednesday until Easter observed by Christians as a season of fasting and penitence in preparation for Easter.

It's that time of year again to humbly give up something we desire.    So this year what will it be?  For Lent 2012 I'm giving up my 2 deliciously dangerous addictions, the 2 Cs:  Chocolate & Caffeine!

Already today I'm dieing for a pack of Peanut Chews and later tonight around 9 pm (during prime time TV) I know I'll be climbing the walls for a Pepsi.

Who else is giving up something for lent?  Cigarettes . . . . rum punch . . . . a relationship with a sizzling man or woman?  Let me know.
Right now I'm craving a Mr. GoodBar!  But no... no... no I'll just eat my apple.

Beyond Hearts and Flowers for Whitney Houston


Losing our beloved Whitney Houston then celebrating Valentine's Day all in one week was a little too much for many of us to cope with.

Still in the midst of our shock and grief of her passing we exchanged an array of brightly colored cards, balloons and flowers reminding us that we are in the splendor of life even after our loved ones have ascended.  We have been inspired because our lives have been touched and made fuller since they have walked amongst us.  Whitney's explosive voice reminded us that the greatest love of all is learning to love ourselves, thereby moving us to become more bountiful in our love of others.

Good Bye, Whitney Houston -- Jersey Girl, Mother, Daughter, Wife, Super Star, Vocalist Extraordinaire and ever so much more that you gave of yourself to us all.

Didn't we almost have it all with you in our lives?

Already Forgotten Those New Year's Resolutions?


It's been said that if you fail to plan you plan to fail.

 Forgotten Those New Year's Resolutions Already?

Exercise three times a week . . . Lose weight . . .  Attain admission to an educational program . . . . Quit Smoking . . . . 
 


Generally people who claim not to make New Year's Resolutions believe they won't be able to keep them.  Surprisingly many of these people also assume most others won't attain them either

Yet we know that there are plenty of goal oriented people out there who have joined the gym this month and will still be active members when December 2012 rolls around. Some will have taken off over twenty pounds and be enviably toned.  There are also people who are sitting at their kitchen tables or desks filling out admission applications to institutions of higher learning and will be enthusiastically attending classes in September.

How do they manage to persevere while so many of us drop the ball?

 
 Have A Buddy -- Be A Buddy!

One helpful tip to attain any goal is to "Buddy Up" with someone else who is also seeking to accomplish a mutual objective.  Join the gym with a buddy. Then be sure to schedule time together to meet and discuss your struggles, setbacks, fantasies and achievements.  Having someone to account to is one of the building blocks to success. Partnering with someone who understands what you are experiencing might give you the support you need to overcome the obstacles to reaching your destination.

Even with a "Buddy” your tasks may seem overwhelming.  What then?

Question:  How Do You Eat An Elephant?        Answer:  One Bite At A Time!

The best chance for reaching your target is by chunking it down into smaller goals.  Start out by planning to lose five of the desired twenty pounds. Create a nutritious menu and exercise plan and keep track of your progress.  And don’t try to eat an entire elephant at one sitting! 

Remember to reward yourself after each small win. A trip to the movies, a walk in the park or a small inexpensive gift to pamper yourself will help you celebrate being a winner while staying on track to achieve your larger aspiration.  

Be Gentle With Yourself!

Expect setbacks.  You won’t always be able to make three visits to the gym or stop yourself from eating that extra slice of pizza (or two).  Possibly you won't complete those school admission applications as early as you planned.  Setbacks are part of the process of success.  Lean on your buddy to keep you on track.

 “One step at a time”, “Nobody’s perfect”, “I won’t quit until I reach my goal” are gentle mantras that can help us move past the negative thinking that can sabotage our efforts. Silent affirmations have assisted many people in cancelling out the negative self talk that can drag us down when we need to keep our spirits up.
 
Before we exit January reconsider those 2012 New Year's Resolutions and resolve that by following the above three steps to achieving your goals you will successfully attain your heart’s desire this year.  Good luck and Happy New Year!

Living with the Winter Blahs

Though the heart warming memories of the festive Christmas season have drifted far behind us, bleak snowy days and long dark nights still lay ahead. Do we find ourselves falling asleep earlier and waking up later in the still dark mornings while not able to drag ourselves from under the warm cozy covers?  Can we not shake that sleepy feeling until well into the afternoon?  Then the winter blahs have engulfed us.

Now might be a good time for many of us to keep our new year's resolution and begin exercising at least 20 minutes a day.  Jumping jacks, running in place and any other form of aerobics will help energize us and begin to chase the winter blahs away.  Also we can enjoy the many blessings of being indoors.  Plan card parties, pot luck dinners with friends and catch up on reading the books and watching the DVDs we've been wanting to curl up under the comforter with and enjoy.

As we move toward the end of January the days are growing longer. The stores are already beginning to display their colorful spring fashion wear.  Take heart --  the warm sunny days of spring and summer are not too far away.  And soon the Winter Blahs will be a distant memory.
